Methodology

To arrive at the recommendation of cost-effective organizations, that is, interventions where we achieve the greatest possible impact for every donated real, we follow a research process that begins with (i) cause prioritization, in which we identify the most strategic causes in Brazil, moving on to (ii) an in-depth review of the literature on the prioritized causes and exploring effective solutions to the problem, and then (iii) diving in to search for and evaluate the most promising organizations in Brazil.

Cause Prioritization Research

As the first step of the work, we seek to understand which causes show the greatest potential for identifying cost-effective organizations and interventions.

To do this, we look for causes that (i) impact many people with greater intensity (Important), are solvable with relatively simple interventions (Tractable), and do not receive proper attention (Neglected).

From constructing a map of possible causes, we consult experts according to predefined criteria and consolidate the country's main social problems into a single list.

We move on to harmonizing responses and ranking causes by area and, finally, conduct a final round of evaluation of each cause to compare them and understand which appears to have the greatest potential to find cost-effective organizations.

Cause Study and Organization Mapping

This stage aims to deepen our knowledge of each prioritized cause and provide references to effective interventions to sharpen our focus on searching and evaluating organizations operating in the area.

We conduct an in-depth review of relevant data and literature, seeking to quantify the magnitude of the problem in Brazil, identify regional, racial, or gender inequalities, map direct and indirect negative impacts, and potential neglect in public policies and misallocation of resources.

We also review national and international literature exploring effective solutions to the problem. In other words, we seek interventions that have already been evaluated and proven effective.

Ultimately, we identify the most promising organizations within each cause and invite them to a pre-selection interview to select only those that signal the highest potential for cost-effectiveness in their interventions.

Evaluation and Selection of Recommended Organizations

From the organizations mapped in the pre-selection, we select the most promising ones and invite them to go through the final stage: an evaluation that includes technical visits, interviews with leadership, employees, and beneficiaries of the organization, filling out forms, and analysis of accounting documents, among others.

Organizations that reach a high level of cost-effectiveness are invited to a partnership to raise funds for them on our website and events platform.
